These projects were done in '98 &'99. My wife's oldest sister lives on what used to be the edge of Elephant Butte Lake. Now it is quite a way down to the lake. This is high desert country and the lake surface is almost 4450' elevation when full. The problem is it has only been full twice since it started filling which was in 1916. Almost all of the water stored is from snowmelt in Colorado and northern NM. Rainfall isn't much of a factor as the average here is about 5". The lake is at 30% capacity.Money wasn't involved in any of this work. My brother-in-law and I are good friends and when he has a project I go help him and when I have one he comes and helps me. This is a deck we built on the lake side of the house. It is built from 2' & 3" square tubing. He ran the chop saw and I welded. It is either 63' or 68' long. I forget but 68' sounds right. We would fish in the morning and build deck in the afternoon. This view is from down in the draw that runs  down to the lake. This one is from the east end. This picture is what a carport turned into. This is next to the road on the side of the lot away from the lake. The carport was 12'  tall with poles down the center and plywood down the sides with the bottom 4' open. Thing would get to doing quite a dance when the wind got high. It is built about 6" from the property line so I built some inverted braces to stop the wiggles when the wind blew. Then we beefed up the trusses and cut out the center post. This was in the spring. Again we fished in the morning and welded in the afternoon. At night after we measured I drew the blueprints for the garage addition and after approval by the state he had the floor poured and purchased all the steel during the summer. I came over that fall and again we fished in the morning and welded in the afternoon. With a little help one week end from his two very large grandsons we got the tin on and then finished hanging the doors.THis is a view of the lake looking to the east. The top of the sandy spot in the lower right hand side of the pictuer used to be the edge of the lake. Maybe 100 yards from the deck.

Reply:It all looks real good and it sounds like you have the fishing and welding priorities all figured out right and proper.                                  MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Hey, you did great with the deck and car port/garage. In the last pick if you look across the lake you can see that old high water mark you're talking about too. Real subtle whitish line in most areas but that itty bitty little black rock out cropping in the far right of the pic shows it."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
