I bought an older ideal arc 250 ac/dc machine with a high frequency tig setup. the whole came with a small bottle of argon. well the bottle is empty and I was wondering if i can take the bottle to my LWS and have them fill it with co2 for my mig welder?ThanksJason

Reply:100% CO2 and 100% argon have different CGA  valves. Argon and 75/25 argon/Co2 mig gas however do use the same valve, so if they really fill your own cylinder and give it back, that's an option. However most places swap rather than fill, so you can usually exchange your cylinder for any similar size ( or smaller) cylinder of another gas. You do need to be careful if you go down in size. You may not be able to go back up to the original size cylinder at a later date with out documentation that you traded in a larger cylinder for some reason..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
