I'm new to welding and am using my fathers old Linde 100 to learn (probably a mistake).  I replaced the torch with a new MT-140 from ESAB.  It appears that there is no gas coming from the torch when the trigger is depressed.  I can feel a puff of gas from the diffuser when the trigger is initially depressed or when released, but no gas seems to flow while the trigger is depressed.  The manual stated a possible cause of no gas flow could be a bad gas valve or selenoid.  Would this still be possible even though I get gas when I first depress the trigger or let off trigger?  Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Kevin McD.
Reply:Have you actually welded with it? Is the gun compatible with the machine? Sounds like it's electrical, since you only get "a puff of gas" when you hit, or let off the trigger......------------John
Reply:If you are getting a puff of gas, would probably be the gas valve not opening and having a build up of pressure, may be a blockage somewhere, if you take the hose off the inlet connection to the valve, if plenty of gas flow there then that side is OK, if very little gas then check outlet of regulator, then reconnect the inlet side and remove the outlet side to check if gas flowing through the valve, if no gas or very little, gas valve is problem, if plenty of flow at outlet side of valve then has to be a blockage down stream. Cheers
