Hi there, I was wondering if there are any steel hose welders on this board?I myself weld steel hoses aswell as piping and expansion bellows, mostly, for a living. If anyone's into steel hose welding I would be very interrested in seeing some picturesof their work. I'll try to get some pictures aswell.
Reply:Ok, got some pictures going now. Enjoy! For starters, here's my setup:Steel hose with mounted welding ferrule:3/4's into the 1st weld:1st weld completed:Hose after welding, ready for connectors:Hose with JIC connector:
Reply:Neat work and shots Speen.  I always wondered how that stuff went together from start to finish.  That's a neat looking positioner too.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:am  interested to see the exhaust above  your tig table,, obviously its not hurting your shielding but why do you need it?
Reply:Thanks! I'll be sure to get some shots of some  when we're making fuel hoses for turbines. Thoose are abit more complicated and you can see how we tack them on our "tacking" table =)Reguarding the ventilation, it's required by our Health, security and environment (HSE) policy. If the roof was higher we would not need it. But it's supposed to get rid of the welding fumes. To be honest, I've never really questioned it, even tho there have been some hoses in for repair with residue from the medium. Those can produce quite abit of smoke.
Reply:That's something else!!!I've never seen hoses like that.  Neat."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:What's the burst psi on these things.  All I deal with is ag stuff that has a working pressure of around 2500psiAdd on edit....... I don't know what the shock load is on the ag stuff"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:1/4" single braid: 5801.52 PSI burst pressure.1/4" double braid: 17404.56 PSI burst pressure.8" single braid: 580.152 PSI burst pressure.8" double braid: 1160.304 PSI burst pressure. We cover theese dimensions aswell as the ones in between both single, double and on special request, tripple braid. The hose in the picture is a 1 1/4" single braid, burst pressure: 2320.608 PSIConverted from BAR, hence the desimals.Got some more pictures when I get home from work.

Reply:Ok, here's some more pictures. Here you can see the booth's lined up along with the ventilation overhead as requested:4" hose on our (in lack of a better word) tacking-table:We had to adjust the angle of this flange, tacked up and ready to go.Same hose, overhead
Reply:What shieding gas are you using on those?  We just started doing some of those where I work.  We have been working mostly with 1/4" and haven't been having much luck.  The larger stuff seems a little easier but we can't get them to look close to yours.

Reply:Some more pictures:This was a tricky one, no braiding or weld ferrule. As you can see I burned a hole in two of them and had to repair.
Reply:The fittings and tube were 6AL-4V. Job was difficult to weld on the inward side due to the bend radius of the tube causing clearance issues. Nice work Speen. Attached Images
Reply:Titanium? Are thoose hydraulic hose fittings? And I must say, awsome job getting around on the narrow part!
Reply:We weld a lot of stainless hose and bellows where I work.  I am the welding engineer.  Mostly the braided hose is used for electrical circuits.  One of them goes submerged in a helicopter fuel tank.I don't have any photos, but it is much the same as your stuff.I would go with the ventillation.  We use it here too.  There is a lot of controversy about chrome fumes, and you might get some with TIG on stainless.  Not as much as stick on stainless, but better to be safe than sorry 20 years down the road.

Reply:odd layout of your booth ..   1st pic from right to left...  welder,,, positioner,, hamburger buns   lolLast edited by shott8283; 02-15-2009 at 07:27 AM.
Reply:Not hamburger buns, just plain buns =P
Reply:Hey Speen I haven't had a chance to get back on here.  We have been using 95 Argon 5 Hydrogen and also straight Argon.  We have been mostly doing the 1/4" hose and have not been having much luck.  Most of them are leaking.  These things are way more difficult than they look.  We have not tried to back purege yet.
Reply:Without beeing an expert on the subject, far from it. I would imagine you need to back purge. We NEVER weld a hose without back purging. But I dont think that is the problem. Practice practice practice =) I had the advantage that I'd never welded before my entire life before starting this job. So the first stuff I welded were hoses. A tip tho, start with the 3/4" hose. When you get that one right start practicing on the other dimensions.
