Hey guys...A little background here... Im 16, very little welding expierence, almost none, im the ultimate noob here.. Im 16 (17 on the 9th if that counts) and looking to make a little money welding cool stuff up.Im not the kind of guy who wants to make garden decorations, and im not artsy at all.I think trailers sound really cool, but if one falls apart and kills somebody... Well... Lets skip that idea...I guess im here to ask you guys for some ideas for useful, practical projects i can make with my good old buzzboz. I have a sandblaster and paint sprayer, so i can paint stuff...Theres a huge comunity of horse people around here, and i saw boot scrapers in someone elses thread... Its practical, easy, no one gets hurt if it falls apart, and just what im looking for... Thats the kind of thing i need...Any ideas?? Thanks guys :-)
Reply:Hey Lanse.  How goes it?Seeing as you're in 'horse country' things for around the stable may be something to think about such as tack racks, pitch fork and shovel hangers, hay feeder racks, etc.  A quick google search brings up a bunch of examples.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Oh jeeze... I stole the name of the above thread... I was thinking of a name for this one, and that one just kind of came to me. Im really tired, and now i cant find the edit button... Sorry everyone... I diddnt mean to do that...
Reply:I would assume since you know how to weld, you have done a few projects of your own.  What sort of things do you create for yourself?  I've personally found it best (and I'm 17, so I might be closer to your position, or I could just be young and naive, in which case you should listen to the rest of the responses) to make for others what I like to make for me.  For me, it happens to be aluminum boats, so I saved up and bought myself a TIG welder, spent 6 months teaching myself how to TIG aluminum (well, the internet did aid a bit), and now I'm building certain parts for smaller aluminum boats (consoles, trolling motor mounts, etc), and have a few guys bringing me boats to do complete modifications on.  I used to do what you are doing - try to figure out what I could make that would sell.  Then, I realized, I needed to figure out how to sell what I already make.  Since then, I've been doing well.Who is John Galt?

Reply:Since you said you have very little welding experience should try and stick with very simple things. If your making things for horse or livestock people it has to be strong. If something breaks and hurts an animal somebody might come looking for you.Saddle stands, bridle brackets, etc. can be done. Custom racks and such for horse trailers. If you have a way to cut them out, can make hitch cover designs for when the trailer isn,t hooked up.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:Lanse,How portable can you be, maybe put a generator in front of your wire feed?  Think about gate, corral, and cattle guard repair.  Horses tend to kick the stuffing out of other stuff besides ridersLincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:Here's a nice saddle rack. I've built several of these. I get a little over two hundred for them. You can get the scrolls from King. Also, here's a couple of boot scrapers made out of plow sweeps, horse shoes, and a horse shoeing rasp. Horse people love them. $60 Attached Images

Reply:try a bike rack i sold one for $300 and im 15 and i have been welding for 2 years in my back yeard. I also have fixed 2-3 catle gards. good $ there too.good luck
Reply:Hey Man, im a horse person who welds, n heck I'm only 18. But i would say saddle racks are the way to go. They used to hold saddles in tack rooms and what not, they pretty simply designs and the bigger they are and the more saddle they hold the more the cost. I would say good money maker, tack stores and catalogs sell them for between 100 to 600 depending on their size.I would sell them on craigslist for half the price and make a killing...(google.search-saddle rack)good luck with it all.....
