Reply:Keeping his job should be motivation enough I would hope. Sounds like you treat him well, not sure what the pay rate is compared to his ability in your area but if you drive him to and from work and buy him breakfast etc etc it doesn't sound like he has it bad. When I get guys like that, I put on paper what we both agree can be reasonably expected out of them to accomplish on a daily basis we both sign it and they need to perform. If he is at work without you there have him fill out a sheet of what he does on an hourly basis..only takes a few minutes. I have had similiar issues from time to time and making them accountable for the time by writing down what they did works well. Reply:Having that kind of deal can be hard to deal at certain moment, probably not yet, but you never know what could happen in the future!Last year i had a deal with my boss about hours i had to miss, it was a good deal for me but i decide to stop this thing with my boss and return to normal wage and normal hours even if i miss some, imagine if this guy have to quit your place, how you will feel ? i think personally its better to never start things like that and keep normal wage and normal hours, maybe a higher wage is always good if you like this worker!Calculator > Bevel Square

Reply:Originally Posted by TuscanyAm I the first to notice that you did the same thing you were complaining about? Who are you to complain about punctuation? You yourself did not use any puncuation in your post, and yet you have the stones to call him on it? Maybe you should go back and read your post and realize that not only is it comprised of multiple statements but also a couple questions. All without any puncuation to separate them from one another. Next time if your going to complain about how someone speaks or writes make sure your not doing it to.

Reply:I had a similar situation with a job where I needed time to deal with things at home, often on an unexpected basis and totally beyond my control. After two weeks I had all the time I needed - to look for a new job...Be careful about firing him until you know there's no liability. In CA there's lots of laws for when family/medical needs interfere with work. Some are to the benefit of the employer, some to the employee. I doubt you have the same level of gov't oversight out there but it still pays to CYA.As for the grammar/punctuation, I'm with WeldingMachine.Last edited by hypothecary; 05-27-2012 at 04:15 PM.Miller Syncrowave 250 w/ PC-300 pulserLincoln AC/DC 225/125Clarke TurboWeld 150ENJackson Halo w/ gold lensHuntsman w/ blue lensDoing sanitary stainless tig
Reply:Yeah I not gonna fire him he's a great worker has just had alot of problms lately that I completely understand. I just think for one I need to pay him little more he has been with me for a while, was just trying to do something that will give him the opportunity to make more but not be due to just milking the clock. As far as the education I did drop out but picked things up on my own and learned them im no dummy just didnt take the time to punctuate thats all. But as far as bashing people before u know their situation well that is just wrong. It just shows the true ignorance of people, but I did read post and realize that it was hard to understand, but for those who responded without bashing Thanks for input on situation.
Reply:If his attendence is an issue you can either sit him down and have a talk with him. Or you could always get rid of his hourly wage and go to piece work. Where the harder he works the more he makes. That usually works if some one is hungary . If you just stand by and let people walk all over your kindness towards them it will only get worse. I see it every day What some of the people at my work get done in 8 hours I could do in 2.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:If you grew up in the rare air where I did your view might be different. Unlike this fella my Dad lived a long time. He was a brainiac and head of an Engineering Dept at a Major University. He held several patents on important things in his lifetime. However, he had no clue when it came to understanding the human condition. A real good education has very little to do with empathy for the other guy. Every guy I know or have ever known has some problem dogging him. The money, the kids, the health, booze, and 100's more. We are at our best when we see that and make an honest attempt to resolve the issue. I feel your Thread is an attempt to get some good advice and handle the thing fairly. Tell him the problem has affected his work and the shop. Be frank, be honest and set down what you need to continue his employment. Hopefully he'll see that he is a valuable part of the system, and self motivate. Also, listen to his side and his real problem and see if there is a way to help resolve the issue. It is in your interest because your goal is to get the work done effectively. As for your short education, it does affect you doesn't it. I teach GED classes and I've heard a lot of stories from folks who for one reason or another ended up quitting school. If you would be happier and more confident find a source for improving your english skills. Obviously you got the smarts, you do well at work.
