Sold my little maxstar 91 to a friend. He doesnt like the manual gas valve on the torch. He'd like an automatic valve much like the ones on larger machines.I found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miller-Weldi...item4ab263576d And it got me thinking. The valve needs 110v, something the pedal itself cant supply. So youd need the following:On / off switchRelay from 110 input power to gas valve110v input power AC lineRemote in receptacle ( remote to gas control)Remote out receptacle (gas control to welder)Gas in & out fittings.Am i missing any thing? On a miller 14 pin plug as found on the dynasty 200 what two pins would you tap into to trigger the relay to fire on / off of the gas valve / solenoid? Reply:I will follow this thread closely since I also have an inverter that I would like to fit with a gas valve.Mikel
Reply:I don't know what you had in mind for the relay but a post flow adjustment in seconds should be involved. My big transformer has a relay thing with a knob on it that kind of resembles an old fashioned tube like in a tv.  Not sure if that is only post flow or is the only thing to control the gas solenoid.  You can get pre flow by operating the pedal with the torch away from the work.I suppose you are posing a general question but do you mean that you want an answer for a dc inverter with a contactor and pedal for amperage?  There is probably a little micro switch in the pedal to tie your relay into and leave the welder alone.  I would assume something like a dynasty or an inverter with ac would come with a gas solenoid. The gas valve on the torch or the device to hang it on isn't too bad by itself it is just switching back and forth between that and one with the solenoid operated by the pedal/machine.Fran
Reply:If your good with 555 timers you should be able to set up a pre-flow and post-flow timer for the thing. Or you could have a manual override on the gas solenoid with a torch mounted button, have the solenoid pop when the pedal is pressed and operate the torch button to keep it on. Or have a little free travel in the pedal so that the solenoid gets kicked open before the pedal tells the machine to put power to the torch. That way you just back off till the current stops and have as much post-flow as you want.
Reply:Sorry i can't be any use to your actual question there jontheturboguy.I was however just the other day thinking of making basically one of the boxes you've pictured for my little inverter arc with lift tig welder. Not having to deal with the valve on the cheap tig torch I have would be a blessing.
Reply:JTTG, I know a few people around here have added valves to the TA 95 Dragsters, maybe not to the extent you're looking at though.Out of curiosity, what was your little inverter worth?  I didn't know Miller had an inverter smaller than 150.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
