Hey everyone figured I would share a couple small projects i've been working on.  First is my new welding table.  The top is only 3/8 thick but i'm thinking that should be good enough for the welding ill be doing on it.  I would have liked to make it a little bigger but i'm limited for space.  Also a bottom shelf and places to hang grinding discs, grinders, and a vise will be added when I get time.  The second project is just some shelving brackets that will be lag bolted to the studs in my garage.  I wanted something I could put alot of weight on (girlfriend has like 50 textbooks from college she wont get rid of) and I had the material already so I decided to make some.  Also feel free to critique the welds, the pics are not the greatest but any input would be appreciated.  Thanks
Reply:Good god I bet you could set your car on those brackets!    Did you weld both sides of the gusset?  One thing to remember is it's always better to weld around the end.  In this application it wont matter, but corners and edges like seen in the last picture are prime locations for tears and cracks to propagate from.  That table should be plenty stout.  I've only got a 5/16" table top and it works just fine for my farm welding.  You gonna put some casters on the bottom or anything?  Sometimes it's nice to have some little piece going across the side under so you can hook all your clamps on.  I'm fabbing up some receivers on mine so I can have the mount my vise and bench grinder as needed and store them elsewhere when I need the full table space. What machine you got?  What settings were you running?Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
Reply:Yeah I may have over done the brackets a little bit.. But I guess thats better than under building them and having a hundred pounds of textbooks land on my head  .  I did weld both sides of the brackets and I appreciate the tip about welding around the edges, I'll be sure to do that from now on.  I am planning on putting casters on the table, as well as welding nuts inside the table legs so I can use bolts to lift the table off the casters and level the table (got the idea from a post on this site).  I like your idea for the vise I may just do that as well... With limited space I have to be as versatile as possible.  I have a MM211 and to be honest for these two projects I cheated and used the auto-set feature.  Although it seems to work pretty well I'm trying to avoid relying on it, don't learn anything that way you know?  Thank you for the advice.  I'll hopefully be painting and hanging the brackets tonight, if so I'll post a pic of how it turned out.
Reply:tbake and welds look good,,grind the cornwers off the trable before you get hurt
Reply:Hmm yeah those corners will have to be one of the first things ill do.  Here are the shelving brackets all done and in place. Im happy with the results it seems very strong, ill have a hard time putting too much weight up there.  Thanks again for input.
Reply:looks great - I'm doing that exact same project, in the same location in my garage this weekend!  Little different bracket design, as I'll probably use some angle I've got lying around though.Millermatic 135Syncrowave 250
