Ive been using Acet. to cut steel but i need to learn how to use MAPP. Is there a difference in pressure settings when cutting?
Reply:Not that I've noticed at work. I still set the fuel to oxygen pressure ratio at 1:5. Unless you're cutting battleship plate, I think 4-5 PSI fuel and 25-30 PSI oxygen works. I routinely cut 3/4" plate square and at a 30° bevel with these settings; with MAPP gas.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:thanks for the info
Reply:you'll probly buy a new cutting tip designed for MAPP gas and appropriate metal thickness..and in the package should be a little data sheet with recommended settings. which are sort of a starting point...if not check the mfrs website for the tips model number ..
Reply:what about cut speed? is it about the same
Reply:Supposedly heat output is a little lower with MAPP than with Acetylene. I've never used both side by side, and I can't tell the difference.Weldbead is probably right about the different tip, I don't know for certain. Still I set gas pressures as if I were using acetylene, and I've had no problems.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
