i have to cut some one inch steel plate and i am unsure of the tip size i should use. also any advise on flow rates for this. thanks
Reply:OK , doublen, I'll try to answer this. I would use a # 1 tip, and anytime I'm cutting steel I have my regulators set at 7 psi for acetylene and 40 psi for oxygen. Other people might do it different, but that's my way. Good luck. A clean or new tip and preheating will improve the cut, too.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:it seems like that is just about what i tried to do today but the plate just seemed to be too thick. maybe i was just traveling too fast. i guess i will try and calm down alittle and take my time tomorrrow. i just get too frustrated haha
Reply:angle the tip 5 degrees in the direction you are moving to allow it to preheat the next spot. dont start the cutting ox until the torch has made the starting spot yellow-white..
Reply:Ok first you need the right tip size. What brand torch are you using ? Here is a link to a victor tip chart showing what size tips for what thickness of material.http://www.eurekaoxygencompany.com/victor.htmIf its a victor torch you have, use a #2 tip with 6 psi acetylene and 40 oxy and you should be good to go if the tip is clean !
