does anyone know what the stuff inside old acetylene tanks is? Is it harmful? I want to cut the tops off of some old out-serviced tanks I scrounged up, dig out the stuff, bag it and dump it,  and use the cylinders for another purpose, but do not want to do this if there is asbestos or some other ungodly mess in there. Thanks Jeremiahhttps://www.weldingweb.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Reply:As far as I'm concerned you must have a death wish to even try that w/ a saw. Think about what that cylinder contained!!!!                            MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:I cut one open in the past, I left the valve open a few months before doing so and went carefully. I think I started with holes near the top or removed the valve first and started drilling down to test. not a spark or sputter. The old one I have in the boneyard have been out there with valves open for years now.
Reply:no deathwish, but it is sort of against the odds I am still alive after all, lol.
Reply:The old ones definitely have asbestos in them!...and its the "long strand" stuff that is so dangerous to your health,  I had one that had been cut along time ago.  I just capped it with concrete, then made this little guy from it.  It weights about 350 pounds !!"Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
Reply:hey that is artistic. I Like the little guy there. nice use of found material. Trying to figure out what you make the arms from?
