What would be the best way to get a consistent bend close to the same for around 40 or so 3' sections of 3/4 round stock. im thinking a roller but the HF roller doesnt have the dies nor do i think it will bend it the way i want it to. I am thinking about making one since im in a industrial welding program and have access to the water jet laser what ever i need. BUT i dont want to be making the project that i need the roller for at school because i think it could be a good little money maker in this area and there are to many doe doe heads in the lab that will ask what it is and they end up slowing me down because all i can think of when there mouth starts moving is ....... I am just looking for some ideas of where to start on this project. this project only leads to the project that i want to make haha. let me know what you guys have for a good start sorry if there has been other things like this posted I didnt have time to search since im sitting outside my neighbors apartment door stealing internet. (I spend all my extra money on welding tools and equip that will help me in the long run a lot more than internet and cable will) Thanks, Ryan
Reply:What radius do you want to bend to? The compact bender would probably be a better bet if you can build a die the size you need, or build a dedicated bender around the same lines. I've bent 3/4" (#8) rebar thats hardened, with a chunk of heavy wall 6" pipe (bollard) and a stop, using a 6' length of 1 1/2" pipe for leverage and to keep the other end straight in the field. all those bends came out exactly the same with a bit of practice..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Barefooter:Build this. You can get material at a scrap yard. You will have it for life and it will do your 3/4 rod as well as up to 2" square pipe as well.Guy named Wello from Australia came up with it.Make the handle as long as you like (need). Mark you positioin when you do your first test to the point you like and have at it.Hope this helps. Attached ImagesSign on East Texas payphone: Calls to God 40 cents......it's a local call...

Reply:It looks like the desired material inserted under the bolt in the first photo.  The handle in the third photo is inserted in the center hole of the second photo 1" pin in 1" hole.  rotate handle to wrap material around the pipe.  photo 1 and 2 are the same part.My guess?
Reply:That's how I saw it.  That would give about 1" between the roller face and the inside edge of the 4.5" pipe.  So 1/4" Gap between the material being bent and the roller.
Reply:The other option that i have thought of is that i have a semi brake drum but i am not looking for a ring. looking for a quarter of a ring. im making a basket of some sort ill show pics when im done. so the top needs to be open and the bottom needs to meet at my piece of metal holding it all together. that doesnt make much sense but ill try to draw a picture or find a picture to help explain. stampeder I do like the idea of that one but i think i would modify the semi brake drum that i already have somehow.

Reply:cutting a full ring or "circle" would be the best way to make them all pretty close to the same. I would have to find a 6' dia. pipe or something to bend it around and I dont have the storage space to have something like that. thanks for all the input guys! its helping with my brainstorming immensely!keep it coming
Reply:The design of the HF Tube roller will Roll the material to the Arc you want- since you have now given us the Diameter 6'I'm not sure if the HF Roller is robust enough to handle 3/4" solid round but it doesn't take much to roll steel. The Dies that come with the HF roller would probably work since you are rolling solid and you can do that with Flat Dies.If your 3' length is the final length then you will need to cut the blanks a little longer, roll the Stock back and forth through the roller until you achieve the desired arc, remove and then trim the "Flat" areas off the ends. The "Flat" area is the distance from the center die to the outside dies, this is the part of the stock that doesn't get fed in to the roller all the way.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:To make the same radius bends with a ring roller all you have to do is bend the entire bar at once. Then cut out peices from the coil when you've got it down to the correct radius. If you need more than one bar worth of bends, don't cut off the parts untill you have enough coils to complete the job so you can compare to make sure they are the same size.A HF ring roller might not be strong enough for 3/4" round bar, and even if it is you will get quite a workout bending 120 feet. What radius are you after? It may be available prefab. Reply:not to sure on the radius i am looking for just yet. I want to just play it out and see. its more of a art fabrication than a precise fabrication that i am shooting for. I think what i am going to do is use the rose bud to heat them, clamp them to a big piece of something round that i have yet to find at the scrap yard and slowly bend them along the round whatevers radius till i get what I am looking for.Im going to look for an old tractor rim or a big propane tank maybe. not sure yet. I am still thinking im going to get the HF bender because if it doesnt work I can always use it for something else down the road and I can also modify it to work maybe.
