After purchasing my welder, and practicing a few beads I decided that is I was going to get serious about this I needed a table to weld on. I did some seaching for ideas, and then set about designing what I thought I wanted. Something simple, built to hold a box I already have and sturdy. I want to have the ability to set heavy items on it if I need to. The design I came up with is very simple, and can be added on to as I see the need for more things. Ok, enough with the talking, on to the photos. Any coments or suggestions are always welcome.Oh, one last thing to keep in mind while viewing these, this is the third time I have tunred on my new welder and welded something. Raw steel, I have the company I bought the steel from cut it since it didn't cost me any more, and I don't have a way to carry a 20 stick.Laying out and tacking the top supports.Top support final welds. Not the greatest, but not bad for my 3rd time welding. After some advise from a few friends I slowed down my travel speed a bit and started coming out with some nicer welds.More to come.Cheers,Josh
Reply:Continued:Welding in a corner is a PITA. The weld came out terrible IMO.Quite a bit of grinding and the top is done. The bottom is identicle, then it was on to the legs. This is day two on the build, and after some advise on sowing down my travel speed from a few friends.Welds are starting to look a little better. Welded the top and bottom together and add some wheels.More to come.Cheers,Josh
Reply:And the end.Add the top plate, welded just on the corners to keep it from warping. Added some brack paint, the tool box I designed it around and my vise. So, all in all I am quite happy with it. Nice and strong, looks pretty good and very functional. I am still thinking of a few things I might add, maybe a shelf behind the box, maybe a rod accross one side to hold my grinders... we shall see. So, let me know what you think. I am good at taking critisisem, so feel free to offer any up.Cheers,Josh
Reply:Nice work Josh! Is that the new Millermatic that automatically sets everything for you? I've been looking at one of those for the future. The only suggestion is you might resize the photos to 800x600 or 1000x800 so we can read your text on the right side. Reply:Nice work.  May consider putting the vise on a trailer hitch bracket.  Like some of the others have.  It helps to have the full top of the bench clear at times.
Reply:I'm just starting to learn as well and I think its damn good. Good job. Hopefully I'll be tackling something like this in the next month or so!

Reply:Nice table and a great welder. I have one as well and just love the autoset feature. One suggestion for your table, you might want to round the corners so you don't get jabed by them some day.Best of luck in your weldingHarold MulderMiller 211 AutosetHTP 201 Invertig with water coolerHardinge Cataract Quick Change Lathe

Reply:Nicely done!!!! I must admit I was a bit distracted by the bright, shiny corner magnets, and clamps etc.! We need to get those more dirty!! 200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:JSP... would you mind sharing the dimensions of the table?
Reply:One thing I noticed right away was that shiny Fire Extinguisher!  Excellent thing to have and I'm glad you have it near by.  You never know when a stray spark may fly somewhere it shouldn't!   The table looks great as well.  As for the shelf you mentioned for the grinders.  We don't use a shelf in our shop, mainly because it is a collector of things that doesn't need to be there.  What I did was bend a piece of 3/16 rod in the shape of a J and welded the top to the bottom of the table.  Then you can hang the grinder on it and it is easy to access.  Just my .02

Reply:the auto set works great on these machines I learned how to work with it at school and fell in love with it so I got one of my own. I dont use it that much because I do a lot of tig alum. around here for small odd jobs. also if you having trouble with wire speed make sure your pressure on the wire is set correctly so it feeds smoothly into the drive rolls. play with it a little untill you get the right outcome.looks good, keep on running beads!
Reply:Originally Posted by JSPHaha, you know I just tossed my design paperwork. I figured with so many tables out there no one would want my design. Give me a few days and I will get the measurements again.
