Last week I was TIG welding some battery mounts into my drag car.  The mounts are basically a "U" shape that butts up to the frame rail.Near the back of the car it was impossible to run the weld vertical up from the bottom or top of car, so I ran it vertical down.  The welds came out very nice and looked like a vertical up weld.Is there any compromise in strength doing this?  It is still the "push" method, only going down vertically.  I did not have to run any faster and filled the joint like I always do.Just curious if anyone else has done this and what you thoughts are...Thanks!
Reply:That would be the way to do it.  John GaultSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Up or down not as big a deal with GTAW as it is in other processes.
