hi, i'm new to posting but have been looking for awhile now, just thought i'd show off an aluminum trailer step i made for an enclosed trailer. I have been welding steel for about 5 years and this is my first aluminum project. started tiging in january and fell in love with it. Attached Images
Reply:Nice design, installation, and fine looking welds. Well Done.
Reply:great idea and work
Reply:Looks good winlight, and Welcome!Matt
Reply:Interesting project and not -bad- looking welds. Try to 'wrap' your welds around the corners a little more and get the beads to overlap a bit more at the transition of one 'run' to the next. You have a bit of a divot/depression where you tried to go around the corner of your miter joint weld. Aluminum really-really-really does NOT tolerate divots or craters in welds. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:The design is so simple it's elegant. Good job!
Reply:thanks for the complements everyone, and moonrise, thanks for the tips. i'm still getting used to aluminum. seems like it takes alot more filler rod then steel does, and the gap your trying to fill will open up real fast if your not careful. this step was a request, but i think i'm going to build another one and put it on display for sale.what do you guys think a step like this is worth?
