Is it possible to braze metals that you would normally use oxy. actylene with a tig machine . Do you have to use a special rod and flux? A.C. or D.C.? Any info would be helpful. Thanks Jim
Reply:What are you looking to braze? I know it can be done with silicon bronze rod, works great on steel and some bronze. No flux needed, just clean material and shielding gas.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Thanks I will use D.C. and argon , with silicon bronze rod see what happens.
Reply:remember the heat is way less than for welding, youre just warming it up to brazing temperature..exactly the same as oa
Reply:In general, I've had better results with silicon bronze in the AC mode. The cleaning action seems to help reduce the "scumming" effect DC has on the puddle. I've done some work on thin (yellow) brass too with silicon bronze using GTAW and I found that using silver solder flux worked nicely for that application.maniak
Reply:Remember when using silicon bronze (Everdur) with TIG, you are brazing not welding, so you do not melt the base metal. |
