Hello, I would like to know what the thickest steel you have welded on a 210 amp MIGmachine. What was your wire diameter, shielding gas, single / multiple pass etc. Thanks in advance. Bart.
Reply:Vertical up, 3/4" to 3/8" fillet. .045 wire, Co2 gas, 155 ipm, about 160 amps.Machine is a ranger 250, but 160 amps is 160 amps. The base is 1.5", so its 3/4" to 1.5" horizontal fillet. If I turn the heat up enogh to weld the base, I get globular transfer and a bunch O spatter.I stick weld that part.DavidLast edited by David R; 05-15-2009 at 09:19 PM.Real world weldin. Reply:i think the thickest iv welded is 1/2" at Derecktor Shipyard. flux core, 3G and 1Gdidnt have to preheat it, but thicker material you had to for better penetration.lil wavy on the 3G haha, no slag though!sorry for the poor quality. cell phone cams blow
