Reply:I've been dreading an upcoming job like this.  I have a weak clutch on an Allis 190XT.The front clip on the Allis weighs something in the order of around 3500lbs (I think), and I'm kicking around an idea for a rack to separate the doggone thing.I'm figuring on a full length railed fixture with casters on the rolling supports.  The casters will make for an easy separation, and the jig will make for exact alignment when reinserting the pilot shaft into the clutch plate without wiping out the shaft or bending the plate.I'm not looking forward to the day when this has to be done"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I have seen many similar "factory" made splitting jigs in dealerships. They work great and save money and time.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:Your idea might just be a bit safer, I never stopped to consider it.Casters might be too easy to roll.  I'd hate to have the stupid thing get away from me.  I really don't have one level spot in my yard/shop.Do you grease the rails, or does the come along/whatever have enough power to overcome the drag?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:yes  Sam, i  squirt  a little oil on the  rails and  it  slides very  easy. however  i  would  use mechanical  jacks  instead  of the  screw  things if i had  them.  hydraulics  seem to leak off.  well  the  ones  i got  do. i  get  all  tires  off  ground to make it  easier  to  turn  the  shafts to  line  up  clutch and  pressure  plate. also  there  was  slop in  the pilot  bearing   end  shaft  i had  to  use  wood  wedge like  to  hold it  closer  to   straight and  level.
