A co-worker gave me this project to work on.  He had tried to weld it with a stainless stick electrode, but realized that it just wasn't good.  I had to cut it completely apart and reweld it.
Reply:MUCH better!
Reply:Much, Much, better than new! Those tubes must be really thin after grinding all the crap welds out, good job of not burning through the tubes. How does it steer or am I not seeing something?I am what I am, Deal with it!If necessity is the Mother of Invention, I must be the Father of Desperation!

Reply:You get all the fun jobs!!! nice fixYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:nice fix. I'm surprised you had enough material to reuse, due to cleanup and considering that it wasn't properly fit initially.

Reply:Yeah, I would call that improvement!  Good that he recognized those tiny little flaws in the original welds...(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:It might be wise to put some light gauge gussets near the repaired joints.  With all of the welding and grinding, that has gone on, I'd imagine the Heat Affected Zone is enormous. With the original tube being thin, I'd bet that the Alloyed strength has been cooked out.  (HAZ Failure)Repairs are always fun....-RhynoP.S.  Make us a movie of a Large idiot taking it off of a jump.07 Fowler 200D65 RedFace04 Miller TB 302, 22hpMiller 12RCMiller HF 251-1Lincoln SP135HyperTherm PM 380and a few others... Reply:I would recommend tying the down tubes back to the complete bicycle frame's down tube. Reply:Nice fix!! Yeah, gussets might be a good idea. If you don't mind doing more welding for them, point your friend to atomiczombie.com. Bike building site. Reply:With what appears to be a very narrow wheelbase up front that new trike will probably be a real hoot to ride and stay on, unless a 1 mph speed is maintained.  I'll be interested in feedback, as to how it rides.  Thanks.
Reply:wow, that atomiczombie site is sick, I want to build a bike now  used to build choppers when I was a kid but didn't have the tools or skills like now, oh boy yeah, def a can of worms there...miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:I did tell the co-worker about some possible gussets that might add stability to the frame.  He was very, very please with how the bike looks.  Being as it is not finished, I may well get it back for more welding.

Reply:At the risk of sounding stupid, what did you use to weld this mess up?  Don't want to assume anything.

Reply:A small mention must go to the original weldor for realising his work was rubbish. Too many people build crap welds, grind 'em a bit to make 'em look passable then paint it. He at least had the brains to imagine the potential for broken limbs.I'm on the look out for cheap bikes to make various toys for the kids - lots of ideas on the 'net.
Reply:Thanks appreciate the information.
Reply:Yeah, Atomic Zombie is a real time sucker!!! I have it book marked and check back often. I'm going to build a tad pole trike at some point. I like the fact that Brad has put a lot of effort into designing with the average schmuck in mind, like not having parts that require any special equipment or farming out.
