Theres a lincoln Ideal arc-SP250 for sale on craigslist right now for 1000 bucks, may be able to talk them down. (farm used) Or I can buy a brand new Hobart ironman 230 for 1468 with tax.. Whats my better deal?

Reply:The only SP 250 I've been able to find info on is close to 20 years old, and it has touch pad controls on the face of the unit. As old as the unit potentially could be, the odds of finding a replacement touch pad assembly are probably low. Personally I'd go with the new unit over an old dinosaur that may be difficult to find replacment part for. The Ironman 230 also come with several years of warranty.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Reading through some of your past posts your need for the unit seems to be hobbyist level on 1/4" and thinner. Since cost seems to be an issue, realistically for weekend hobbyist welding you probably don't need a unit anymore robust then a MM 211, Hobart Handler 210 MVP, or a Thermal Arc Fabricator 211i.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:If you end up starting a business you're going to want more than one wire unit anyway, to eliminate the nuisance of having to change, the machine over from one wire diameter to another depending on material thickness being welded.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:I am new to welding but have always wanted to start. I reciently purchased the Hobart 210mvp for hobby and around the house use. I paid under $800 SHIPPED. Worth every penny for my needs.
Reply:Thank you all for your input and suggestions. I purchased my welder today, got a hobart Ironman 230 for 1460 with tax and got a hobart $100 helmet for only 49 because I got the display model. They also gave me 2 free pounds of solid .035 hobart wire. I also got a warranty. Im very happy with my purchase. Cant wait to get some gas and try this thing out.

Reply:I have been eye balling the IronMan 230 too. I wanna hear and see how it welds!
Reply:It welds great...But thats comming from someone whos very MIG welds were laid down today. This is my very first MIG welder. These are my very first MIG welds with it. Starting from left to right, (I did the left side first) All of these done on 1/4" mild steel, with .035 solid hobart wire, and 75/25 mixture, and regulator set at 20cfh when I let off the trigger. The first weld was done with the voltage on 6 and the wire speed at 44, and using an e technique. The next 4 are at voltage 6 and 45. With the first one of the next four useing an e pattern and the last three with a weave from side to side. The last ones all the way to the right are just random settings. Attached Images
