Got this momentary switch the other day and i dont think i'll be using my pedal very much any more.i'm going to talk about this as in all my searches i didnt find much info about a momentary switch.it works well with my AM300  as it has the 4T function (slope repeat)not so sure how i would like it on my TB302?i takes the slightest movement to hit the switch. does not interfere with the torch at all. Before i got it i read up about hand remotes on this, and other welding sites and most of the info seemed to be about the north south or east west remotes. The big problem was that the wheel took too much movement and that interfered with the arc.this does not (with the 4T function) I just have to think about the amps before i set the machine. I can usually get it dialed in in a bead or two, i just set the down slope to 4 secs or so and if the puddle is too hot i hit the switch again and it starts the down slope (like lifting the pedal) then when it is cool enough i let the button off and it starts to ramp up again. If i was off with the max amps i have to keep doing this till i stop and then i adjust the amps on the machine to suit. The button pushing is so slight it does not interfere with the arc at all. even when walking the cup.It is also great to have the remote with you all the time and not have to re position the pedal all the time.I suppose the pedal is fine if you are sitting in the same place at a bench all the time, just my life aint like that very often.comments welcome Attached ImagesG
Reply:I have a thumbwheel on mine I use when building custom exhausts and roll cages. A pedal is a PITA for either.
Reply:I've been doing this for a long time, can't work out why everyone wants/needs a pedal.I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:ok I am a wimp I use a pedal and love it. I also have a thumb wheel but not smart enough to use it. When I am welding thin Al I use it to back off the power once I get a puddle going. Reply:How much for something like that or the thumb slider for my 1991 synchro250?  Ya the pedal is no good for welding on or inside a vehicleMiller Synchro250 bought new 1997Millermatic200Miller Bluestar 2E . AC/DC 16hpBluestar 2E , DC Miller Thunderbolt225 AC/DC ArcLongevity 60 plasma

Reply:When I did automotive work, I used the pedal.  I always found one way or another to use it.  With the way I position my hand on the torch (which often was never the same way twice), there's no way I could get the amperage control I needed on thin materials with a thumb wheel or momentary button, if I could reach it at all.
Reply:who makes it?
Reply:I have a similar setup to gordfraser, and I have to say I am a convert to using a set amperage and the 4T function.  I welded for years using a pedal in all sorts of awkward positions (say, laying on my side under a car with the pedal under my knee, just as an example) and I've never been a big fan of lift-arc (tough to get good post-flow coverage).I bought my machine used, and it didn't come with a pedal, just a momentary switch on the torch the PO rigged up, which I initially thought I wouldn't like, but I have been converted! You can build your own pretty easily, just need a fairly durable SPST momentary switch or button, and the proper connector for the remote on your machine.  SSC Controls sells just the connectors for most of your modern machines that use an Amphenol-style threaded circular connector, they are expensive ($15-20, but SSC has a better price than the electronics supply house i used to use.  You connect the poles of the switch to the contactor pins in the connector, and away you go. Of course, a momentary switch is a lot easier to use if you have a sequence function on the machine, it would get pretty old holding a switch down, but i suppose you could substitute some other type of SPST switch that isn't momentary. If it doesn't fit, you aren't hitting it hard enough!Miller AerowaveMiller Radiator 1A4.5" DeWalt (with the paddle switch!)Jackson NexGen Helmet
Reply:haha when im doing my pressure tests, i set my pedal on the table and throw a big brick on it. I hate pedals!

Reply:okgot to follow this up.i had to plug the pedal back in today!was trying to repair a copper wind vain.could not get the control that copper needed with the button.cant say i got it worked out with the pedal, but it was easier.thin copper sucks..... wont ever try to tig it again.id take aluminum any day.and no there are definitely no pics!G
Reply:i have been thinking of getting a thumb control that gives the same variability as the foot pedal for the welds you just cant do in a chair  at the bench where the pedal works just fine.i havent used it  hardly at all but im aware that tigging can be initiated by scratch start..so what is the reason for the button you just got?wouldnt the scratch start do the same thing for you?sorry to hear the copper kicked you..im sure you'll eventually kick it back...

Reply:weldbead"they" say that the wheel type hand control is very hard to use cause the ammount of hand movement needed to turn the wheel interferes with the steadyness of the arc.to make use of the button you would need the T4 function IMHOG
