I have searched the forum's but didn't find any info, so I'll post this here and maybe someone can help me out.I have an old tig torch cooling unit made by VB Anderson?, it is a tall (approx 4') , & round (approx. 8") Stainless tank with the pump & motor mounted on top. The pump is made by Sherwood (couldn't find them on the net). The pump needs to be rebuilt. I hate to buy a new one, this one seems to be a high quality unit. If I have to, I will. let me know your 2 cents worth.............Thanks in advance.
Reply:What type pump is it? Gear, vane, or centrifugal? Gear pumps don't rebuild very well and are usually cheaper to replace. Vane pumps aren't much better. I don't think centrifugal would make a good tig torch pump, but i could be wrong there. The pump in my cooler is less than $200, in terms of professional shop down time it would deffinetly be better to replace than rebuild.
Reply:Get ahold of a ProCon soda fountain pump.  Most tig coolers use those.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:The reason I say gear pumps don't rebuild well is because a rebuild kit consists of about 75% of the parts (everything but the housing) and costs 75% of a new pump, no brainer to me.

Had one previously for years that got lost in a move somehow.  When I get home tonight I will pull it out of the tank and see what the brand and part number is.  I think little giant.Miller Synchro250 bought new 1997Millermatic200Miller Bluestar 2E . Reply:Thanks for all of the advice / help. I have been searching the net for a day now. I found the Pro Con, I didn't know anything about them. I might need to go for one of them.Lincoln Tig 300Miller Dial Arc HFHobart MigLincoln LN 25Atlas latheAnd a lotta other stuff
Reply:You can build a homemade TIG torch cooler using a carbonator pump. I made a cooler before from a rubbermaid container and a used carbonator pump (for soda fountains) that I purchased on ebay for less than $50.Midwest Metal ProductsMetal Wire Forming Fan Guards Delta-Larm
