Hi gang,I went to the local welding supply store yesterday because Harbor Freight was out of their 6011 rod (I know, I know...). Anywho, the had a brand of rod I had never heard of, and it was the only rod they sold in less than 50# packs - Washington Alloy. When I asked where they were manufactured, the rep said they used to be in Washington, USA, but now they are manufactured in Korea per WA's formulation. Skeptical, I took a chance on the rods, being that I liked the Harbor Freight Chinese 6011 Mutant rod so much (it's 6011 that welds like 6013).I fired up a stick on my Lincoln AC tombstone and some scrap 1.5" square tubing (.120 wall) and layed some beads. Long story short, this rod sucks . It splatters everywhere and is very difficult to weld with. Of course, it could be that I just suck at welding stick ...Just curious what others' experiences have been.
Reply:I have used a tond of Washington alloy mig wire and it welded fine. I have run Washington Alloy 7018, and 6011 in the past and honestly I din;t think they were too bad. Definitely not top of the line, but better than alot I have used. I will say this, I have tried rods from Harbor freight once and once only. I'll take the WA electrodes over the HF any day of the week. Just my personal preference.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
