Okay. I am trying to learn the basics of stick welding What are the AC/DC uses used for?
Reply:I'm sure you have a pretty good idea.It totally depends on the rod. Some run on AC, and some run on DC, and some will run on both. It's mostly about how the rod is made.DC is more controlable within limits. Arc blow is a problemAC is easier to start, and cheaper to run considering the price of a machine capable of running it.Other than that, I dunno"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:in an ac wave the value actually drops to zer0 for an instant..makss a less solid-acting arc than dc which is thefe all the time..but i sometimes use myt machine on ac cause i like the sound of it better.. there is some rod special made to run ac but it and almost any will run dc fine..some dc rod can not run ac..
Reply:6011and 6013 are both ac/dc rods6010 is dc onlyregular 7018 is for dc, there is a special 7018ac for acMM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I stick weld almost exclusively with dc. Only reason I have to run ac is if there's arc blow that I can't solve by moving the ground clamp or welding the opposite direction. DC is much smoother and nicer to weld with, quieter too. Reply:Isn't AC better for thawing pipes? Less chance to Magnetize things?
Reply:DON'T THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATERThere's still a lot of AC rod being run out there. It's a good choice for people that don't have the money to tie up in powerful DC machines. The flux, and maybe the alloy(not sure on that one), on AC rods is designed to make up for the instability of the 60hz arc outages. That's all physics and engineering stuff. It's all about the plasma from what I understand"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
