Is it possible to run a miller thunderbolt stick machine off an 11 000 watt trailblazer will still using TB for welding. Both machines will be burning 1/8 7018 at same time.
Reply:If your question was can I run a Maxstar other inverter stick welder from the Trailblazer while welding, I would say yes.   That Thunderbolt uses alot of juice, almost 50 amps at rated output.   The Trailblazer only puts out 50 amps of 240v power.   I dont think you'll be able to run 1/8 7018 on both machines at the same time.  Might work with 3/32 6011 though.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I take it you are trying to have 2 guys welding at the same time off one machine.
Reply:Nope.  hes got a stinger in each hand.  LOL.  sorry DSW.  I think this is an interesting question also.
Reply:I'm trying to remember if there was a way to do that off one machine. I vaugely remember something about that in class once, but it wasn't anything that applied to me so I didn't pay all that much attention.

Reply:I am not real familiar with the Trailblazers, but I was under the impression that the trailblazer's auxillary power was independent of the welding current.  If that is the case as I believe it is then I would think that it is possible since you should not be drawing down your welding current by powering the buzz box, but I would agree that an inverter machine would be far easier than a buzz box...I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:The Trailblazer, while it is a '2 generator system', still only puts out so much generator power with it's 23hp motor.  It doesn't put out 11KW for each operation, it's 11KW in total.   Actually, the 302 puts out 9500 watts continuous, the 11000 watts is peak, for momentary starting power.  As weld power output demand increases, generator power output available decreases.   If you're stick welding from the Trailblazer at 150 amps, that's about half of it's max output, so it will only be putting out about half of it's max generator output at 150 amps welding output.  So if it has 9500 watts continuous max generator output, half of that is 4750 watts, which is about 20 amps of 240v power.  A Maxstar 150 inverter stick welder only needs about 20 amps of 240v power to put out 150 amps to stick weld with.   The Maxstar 200 is about the same.   A Dynasty 200 should be close to the same too.   A Thunderbolt probly needs about 35 amps of 240v power to put out 150 amps welding.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Desertrider, I was not aware of that.  When you go to Miller's site and read the breakdown it says no interaction between welding arc and tools.  So I assumed that since it is actually two seperate generators that the welding arc wouldn't use up available AC power.  If that's the case then I wonder why they even use a two generator setup.  Seems kind of pointless if it works the same as the old machines.http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...ailblazer_302/I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:The advantage to the two-generator system is that there is no 'electrical' interaction between your weld power and auxilary power, providing cleaner auxilary power while welding and vice versa  (i.e. your helper firing up the grider won't pull your welding voltage down and throw off the weld). Could be just marketing hype, but that seems like a lot of effort on Miller's part to implement, and there is good theory to back it up so I would bet there is some advantage. But, like DR said, you are still limited by the power of the engine for your total output just like any other machine.  So your welding output (in watts) plus aux power (again in watts) must be equal to or less than the rated output of the engine (11,000 watts peak, 9,500 continuous). If it doesn't fit, you aren't hitting it hard enough!Miller AerowaveMiller Radiator 1A4.5" DeWalt (with the paddle switch!)Jackson NexGen Helmet

It is very nice to have the separate generators. Like on the Bobcat and the Lincoln Rangers, there is a noticeable difference in the weld current when someone starts up a tool. It isnt a HUGE problem when they start up a grinder (you get used to the fluctuation), but it is nice on the TB not to have a fluctuation in amps while welding. But as far as running a buzz box off the TB while welding at 150 amps, not going to happen. I am just wondering why you need to have two people welding at once. But if you must, then get an inverter stick welder.
Reply:wondering why I would want 2 people welding at once????You trying to make me look stupid,or yourself?????
Reply:Grinders don't usually bother my Bobcat's arc much, but the chop saw makes a difference.I don't think anyone's trying to make anyone look bad here.  We're all just trying to help and/or learn from one another.  MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

If you are wanting to have two people welding all the time maybe you should get two engine driven welders. But from experience, you really dont need two welders for smaller operations, even if you have two people working with you. The reason for this is because fit up, grinding, prep work, etc... takes a lot more time than welding. So you can have two people doing that, you could be welding and you more than likely will be able to keep up with them.
Reply:If it's a question about tacking, a mig with FC might do the job also. From the posts listed, my 220v mig would run balls to the wall FT with some one welding at 150 amp on the same TB. You'll burn thru the tacks anyways when you do the weld.I assume the question about the Thunderbolt is due to the fact you already have one.No offense, I have to say the general idea I personally got, was that of some one trying be "cheap" and not get a 2nd proper machine. Sorry we hear too many of THOSE sorts of questions. Obviously now that I can understand a bit better it begins to make more sense.A second thought has occurred. with a bit of communication it may be possible for you to rig 2 stingers from the same machine and when you stop to change rods and chip, the #2 man takes the extra stinger and runs his tacks. That way you both can work at different locations, A 2nd ground might also be required, depending on how the job is set up.On several jobs we have had to make do with limited AC power. 2 guys can't run tools at the same time or the breaker trips. Usually the one guy runs his tool FT, usually a hammer drill or chipping gun, The #2 man is doing layout and cutting forms. As soon as the #1 guy gets ready to move or shift, he yells to let the #2 man know to get ready on the saw. The #2 man cuts what he needs while the #1 man grabs a quick drink, repositions himself, moves etc. When the #1 man is ready, he lets the #2 man know and the #2 man finishes his cuts and then the #1 man goes back to work.
Reply:Miller does make the Du-Op engine drive, which is made specificly for 2 people to stick or wire weld full time at the same time.  Each side of the machine has it's own seperate outputs and controls.http://www.millerwelds.com/products/.../miller_du-op/MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
