Well after looking around at different nerf bars for my 09 suzuki z400 i could'nt find any that i liked and i would rather make my own considering the price of them. I didn't want ones that are real big and stick out even with the tire which most of them are because their ment for racing so you won't get hit by someones rear wheels. But i trail ride more then race so i wanted a smaller pair that protect my feet from sticks/ rocks and such so i figured why not make my own. On to the build! Some left over bent to the perfect angle 7/8''x 16 ga tubing. I had to splice it to make the longerOn to the notchingTime to fit them up and tackAll tacked upAll welded up scratch start tig. Tricky on this thin tubing with no pedalOn to the next post.....Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:All mounting brackets fitted up and welded. The key is to set the machine hot and keep the heat on the thicker 1/8'' plate and roll the puddle into the 16ga tubingAll done welding thatNow on to the mounting tabs for the webbing material. But how can i make them without no mill or cnc plaz. Well, BIG thanks to Jim Colt for cutting them out for me thanks jim!Heres my rough printHeres the finished tabs!!Time to tack them onOn to the next post...Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Test fit was done and everything is fineTabs all welded up. Same thing with scratch start tig, keep the heat on the thicker edge of the tab and roll the heat onto the tubing while adding filler. All doneWell i took the to the powder coater today and should get them sometime next week. More pics of the install once i get them back from the powder coater. Thanks for lookingYa gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Nice, whats the cost comparsion for them? Build/buy. Looks great.
Reply:Thanks,New their around $150.00 for the cheapest kind but i have seen them up to $380.00. I got about 60.00 in them including the webbing and powder coating. I wanted a smaller style and most of the ones they sell are the big racing style.Ya gotta spend money to make money!

Reply:Yupp pro armors are very nice but pro armor cost $$$$. They have quality parts though. But i didn't want the big racing style nerfs i just wanted a smaller set that no one really makes.Ya gotta spend money to make money!

Reply:Yea i herd ac's broke all the time. The aluminum tubing was real thin like alot of other cheaper made aluminum nerfs they bend and dent real easy(not pro armor though). Thats why i wanted small steel ones. sure there heavier then aluminum but mine are not full size so they weigh alot less then full size aluminum ones. There only 2 pounds each.Ya gotta spend money to make money!

Reply:Totally understandable Shane. Nice job!We do have two series of nerfs that are similar to the ones you made. The Pro Am and Sport series are smaller profiles with no heel guard. What are you going to do for nets?http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Zt,I bought the webbing on ebay that fits tusk's nerf bars (which i hear are really junk). But its comes all pre stiched i just have to cut a row out of it since its aittle to wide. Heres a picThe machine they go on. 2009 suzuki ltz400. Its the 'new style' model since 09 was the year they updated it and added efi on it. So far its been great. Ya gotta spend money to make money!
