I will be welding some tubing but at times the end of the tubing will not be joining anything. If I wanted to cap it with steel ie a plug, weld, cap? What's the easiest way to do so?Thanks
Reply:Tig weld a 1/2" steel freeze plug to it?Muriatic acid will take the zinc off.Mcmaster has plastic tubing end plugs that look slick; doesn't get easier than that.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:On smaller stuff like that I used to use the slugs from our punch, thwy'd be heavier material and have a nice profile to them.....Mike
Reply:What do these look like please?
Reply:Something like a washer but without the centerhole. The center is raised slightly where the center point of the punch is. Here's a video of someone punching a hole in 3/8? plate, he holds the slug at the end of the video http://tinyurl.com/9pqc2dq ...MikeLast edited by mrmikey; 08-06-2012 at 07:05 PM.
Reply:What's the inside diameter of the tubing?  I would try to find solid rod that size (or have some turned down to that size).  Slice that up into a bunch of plugs at least as long as their diameter.  Before inserting a plug, drill a small hole close to the end of the tube through one side.  Tap the plug in flush with the end and then weld up the hole that you drilled (which ironically, will be "plug welding" in two senses.)
