Can any one show me a pic of the inside root teach says im close but what is all the way. thanks to any help.

Reply:I would find a new teacher then, but if you want to know what to look for in a root, first we need to know what process, material and position.  They are all more or less the same, but it wont hurt to know.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Duh. Sory new, tig 6g 2in heavy wall knife edge 3/32gap 3/32 filler and tung.
Reply:I get it sweet on the outside but flush and slightly through I just wanted to see one to compare mine to because that would help me more than just telling me.

Reply:I cant find any good pictures, but usually you want to see something that looks like a wedding band, slightly convex usually between 1/32-1/16 reinforcement.  Consistency is important,  no big bulges or spots of incomplete fusion (shouldn't be an issue with no land).Make sure your tacks are solid, about 1" long but be sure to feather them out so you can burn into them .  Pay close attention here as this is where I have the most problems, its easy to feed in to much filler or not enough.After that, you want to make sure that your next passes dont get so hot that they burn through the root possibly causing suck backHave we all gone mad?
Reply:ok thankyou I cant get it to look like that Ive been runnin heat any were from 60 to 90 and caint get any change in looks also guy at school is gettin same thing I am and we caint get any different results thats why I wanted to get a pic

Reply:Camorobb, I have ua 60, 63 and 67. 22 is the same as 63 except its the super coupon. I once tried the 3/32 gap and was promptly scolded. Go to 1/8 gap and 1/8 rod at 98 to 100 amps. I use a #6 or7 cup for this with about 3/16 of stick out and works great. The instructors in my UA shop are some of the best in the country.good luck
Reply:Thanks to you all, went to school today and got it done used a 1/8'' rod and gap 3/32''tung,red tip, w/around a 1/16'' land heat around 70. Sory no pics camera broken, teach said I will test out monday hope all goes well. The bad thing is their is no work down here so dont know if I should join the union? Dont relly have the money for dues if they dont have work so not shure what to do. If I pass my tig ua-22 ill have both certs from the apprentice school in half the time I was susposed to so thats cool but certs only good for union so that sucks also but cant b***h its free.       WHugs:? Reply:UA21 and 22 are tests on schedule 120, and the super coupon is schedule 160 and super cedes all the other. Its just basically a unlimited thickness cert and you will most likely not weld pipe like that very often. Its like an endurance test.
Reply:Oh ok yea teach did say we would probley never weld 2'' with out a sleave or socket I think. they just test you cause its hard to do I guess but it wasent that bad after fighting and throwing stuff over the 6010 root but now I got the hang of it its not bad at all. Thanks again.
