My welding sucks!

I have a Lincoln 180c set up for mig... I was welding on some 1-1/4"x1/8" box tubing today. I was using .025 wire . All my welds look pourous and crater at the end. Gave it a little tap with a hammer and it friggin cracked! It's very frustrating.  Been messing with it all day.

Reply:The gas was hooked up and on @25cfh. Ya know what... i will check the polarity. I might have it backwards. Thanks guys.. I'm new and that's why I ask questions.

Reply:No waist of time here we have all done just that and worse. Thing I always check is am I getting gas flow out the gun. can I feel it an I hear it.

Reply:You might want to turn the gas down, once you've got welds you're happy with.  25 cfh is on the high side.  Also, .25 is kind of thin wire -- but that depends on what you're welding.But take both of those observations with a grain of salt.  If it weren't for a grinder's ability to erase my worst goober-like mistakes, I would probably have quit already.

Reply:Its those little mistakes we make that keeps us alert and aware enough to watch out for those big ones that could cause real damage!Could you imagine how lax and lazy we would get if we didn't make any mistakes?Personally, I try to make at least one or two small mistakes a day, just to keep myself alert!  At least thats what I tell the wife! #1.
