My spiral staircase project

Still working out what I want.Needs to be assembled on site - ideally with not too much welding.There are the kits around where a centre pole is positioned and each step has a tube sleeve on one end and this slips down the centre pole. They're expensive and a bit common.I don't mind the design in the attached pic. They call this style a spiral 'tape'. I'm okay with the centre pole and the treads, but I'll have to get the tape made. Would they just do it out of a length of, say, 500mm x 5mm flat?It's a 3500mm high ceiling. So it's going to be a long strip. Just out of curiosity, what would one of you blokes over there charge to do the tape bit for a client? Reply:I have no idea what it would cost to have someone roll that for you.  I'm betting it would be well over a grand.  I know you want minimal welding, but If it were me, I would get a bunch of 1/4"  round rod and build up the tape 1/4" inch at a time.  Might look pretty cool too.ars sine scientia nihil est

Reply:My guys could do the tape on a roll (slip or pinch) in about an hour.  Since my shop labor rate is $80/hr, it would be about $80.  If there's more than one length required, it might be a little more.  The key here is to run the bar stock through the roll at the necessary angle.  From the picture, it looks about 45 degrees.  Check with your local vessel fabricators, they should have rolls for making tank shells.
