Can you guess what it is? Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:It's a JD Squared bender. Pretty nice unit. Along with 2 dies, tube notcher and software. There has been a little bit of a learning curve as you can see. I found out that 2" past the die is about as short as you want to be without it popping out. And you shouldnt go beyond the second guide or you'll play hell trying to get your piece back out. We had to build the stand which is 4" x 4" x .125 square tube. Calibrating the software is kinda a pain and takes a few bends before it's pretty close to being money. Once you figure everything out, it makes life so much easier. Another thing I learned is to make sure there is no crap on the tube before you put it in the machine. I must have drug some shavings though and it left drag marks on the tube along with scratching up the guide. Now I have to polish it up a bit so it wont continue to do that on the next pieces. Reply:what software did you get for it? you indicate that it was pain to calibrate, how did things seem to afterwards. I am waiting on the JMR with the air over hydrolics and was thinking abot the software myself.ThanksRon

Reply:That looks really nice. You guys put my mostly harbor freight home workshop to shame.Wine country? Nice over there. My mom lives in Livermore.
Reply:We are running Bend Tech Pro: http://www.2020softwaresolutions.com/bt_pro.htmI was checking out their site and saw they have a $1000 plugin for solid works so you can directly export it to the bending software for layout reasons. After using the software for a few bends, things are getting alot easier. It gives you your pipe layout, based on what you entered for distance of beginning of the bend and actual radius of the dies. I would recommend it because it takes out alot of math and guesswork.I had to look at my posts again.. I'm in McMinnville Oregon. Not sure which state Livermore is in.And this bender does put our harbor freight tools to shame. But they did work for many years before getting the new machines. Although there were alot of limitations and a few jobs had to be subed out.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:Nice toy! Wish I had one.You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:Thats a nice bender, wish I had one!No knocking your work, but to me the hoops on the top look like they would collapse if rolled over! Maybe ZTFab might chime in on that! I have seen his work on here, which to me is top notch, (no pun intended). I have also built many roll cages for race cars & triangulation is your strenght. Just my opinion for future safety purposes!Flashhttp://flashracecarbodies.com
Reply:I have been active on this forum since close to the beginning and asked who was still alive a while back. I was told that I was about it. People come and go for one reason or another. I'm pretty happy here. The customer that I made the cage for gave me the coordinates from SW. The only odd thing is that his XYZ is not oriented the same as BT. He explained to me that the industry standard is what he uses and had to flip his axis around to make things easier on my perspective. Can you flip things around in BT to follow these standards? As for the hoops; the tube is 1.75" .120 wall with .5" wall-pivoting mounts and the design is of the customers. In a way, they are triangulated from the top view. Unfortunately there isnt an easy answer for x-bracing along the sides.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Every time i try and bend pipe i seem to need twice the amount of material required nice toy.shop i used to work in we used a horizontal roller machine to roll pipe and sq tube into hoops for hay rakes. we used a rag and rubbing alcohol to wipe the rollers clean. worked good and dried without leaving any slippery residue.
Reply:Thanks for the reply, I could not recall the name till you both mentioned it again many thanks to both.Ron |
