So I have a 130cf tank of argon that I use for tig welding and a small 20 or 25 tank of c25 for the mig (I don't mig much). The last tank I have is 80cf and 80% full of c25. It came with the last welder I bought and I sold the welder to my dad and kept the tank. He didn't want the tank.Should I use the 80cf of c25 until it's empty and use it as a backup argon tank or empty out the c25 (which is almost there) and use that as my backup argon tank as well as a second tank for back purging? I don't do much SS but when I get a chance to do it, I want to be able to practice doing it right with back purging. Recommendations? And what is a good inexpensive regulator or flow meter and hose for back purging on another tank?OR since I'm downsizing and moving out soon should I trade in one of those tanks for a tank of nitrogen so I don't need to store an air compressor?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:If you are in good with your LWS, and the tank is customer owned, ask them to exchange it with an Argon fill. You just pay for the argon inside.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:Cool, anyone have a recommendation for a regulator or flow meter for a second tank or should I do a Y fitting?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:If you now have a second argon cylinder, I recommend you look at a ball float type flowmeter for tig and purging. High quality flowmeter/regulator equals less gas wasted in coming years.Personally I like the Victor hrf2425 flowmeter. The last 2 digits are 25 which means an outgoing pressure of 25psi recommended for tig. The Victor hrf2480 for instance has a recommended outgoing pressure of 80psi recommended for the higher volumes gas for mig. The 25 psi for tig pressure built up in the hose is kept to a minimum for initial surge which drops to about 3psi during welding. Too high a surge and you can contaminate the weld when starting the puddle along with wasting gas. All this I learned from Jerry Uttrachi.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I would think it wold be a waiste to go with a y valve if now have an argon tank you can didcate with a good float meter, especially if it is for purging. just moro. |
