I need to replace my mig welder. I weld 1/8" up to 1/2" steel Im reading alot about pulse  MM350p and PM350mp is it worth the extra money when welding steel.
Reply:Your non-pulse requirements can be met with a Millermatic 252 or Powermig 255 or whatever is the latest model from Lincoln. The Powermig 350MP can also to stick and dc tig as well as mig and pulse mig.  It is quite a machine.I have the Millermatic 350P.  It is for mig and pulse mig, no other processes, but is very good with the wire processes and the pulse is very easy to use.    I like the pulse because it is a clean spray transfer that can be used in all positions.   Produces very hot fluid welds that are still controllable, with practicaly no spatter cleanup needed.   I like it.  There's not much price difference between the Millermatic 350 and 350P, so the P model is a good deal.  External pulsing units, like the Optima for use with XMT's, typically cost about $1000 and are not quite as user-friendly as the 350P.   I have an Optima for my XMT 304.There are other pulse migs you may want to look at as well, like the XMT & Invision 350MPa power sources, for use with external wire feeders, or the Lincoln Powerwave C300, with built-in wire feeder.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
