Hey everyone, I am kinda new to welding, I know mig and stick. I have been reading this forum for quite sometime now and I just tonight decided to join because I now have a question. Recently I decided in my area there is a real market for decorative home pieces. One of my prototypes is a 4 leg bent legs really a 3/4 circle with a dish rolled out on an English wheel. My troubles are welding the 4 legs together, currently im just welding two together then welding that to my table then welding the other two legs on individually. This is very time consuming and it doesn't allows yield the best quality. if anyone had any input on how i could go about this in a more efficient way that would be sweet.thanks alotwoelper
Reply:It would probably help if you showed a picture of what you're making and someone could probably figure out a simple jig to make it easier to weld. Are you saying that the legs are basically 270 degree loops welded to a dish? It's kinda hard to picture.
Reply:yeah, ill take some pictures of my current process tomorrow and a finished product. i was considering a 4 jaw chuck with big jaws but that may get expensive.
Reply:Seems like you need a jig. Spend much time planning and making something specific for your product. It possible you would be able to place all part in the jig and hold them securely, then all you need to do is weld. Wood works for jigs too.
Reply:Without seeing a picture... would something like a chain clamp work? Or a large hose clamp? A muffler u-bolt maybe? |
