Hey guys a few quick questions i thought it would be easiest if i just get straight to them,1. What are type of alloy are most boats made of (series of alloy)?2. I am using a 5356 rod is this rod only ment to be welded on certain series of alum or is it like a gp and welds some better then others?3. Are there any easy ways to identify the series of alloy you are welding?4. Can 2 diffrent series of alloys be welded together with relative sucsses?5. Are there any quick tips to rembers on setting ac balance sorta of like 30amps to everyone 1mm steel ?6. What is downslope time on my welder i have a settings for it?7. am i write in saying that pulse is just to make the weld look pretty and u can achive same results with standing hand and consistant filler adding?I would greatly appricate any help i can get i dont want to seem to come off as a dick head by numbering my questions its just i cant seem to figure em out hope use can help Thanks Steve

Reply:some answers:1. the hulls are 5XXX but the structural stuff, like the framing inside and the guardrails are 6XXX2. there are 2 main alum tig rods 5356 and 4043. there is an attachment to help you figure out when to use which one.3. if your stock is new then it should be printed on somewhere. If not i just guess.4. Yes5. i set mine on 20% (cleaning). i only change it if im doing a repair on some alum that i cant clean up enough.6. Downslope is for if you use the 4T settings. this means that your remote is used like a on / off switch rather than like a throttle. I use it with a momentary switch for out off position welds (away from the welding stool).7. people here will say that you dont need pulse for alum. i also thing that, but if you get the correct settings for pulse i like to use it most of the time as it helps my timing.i think its best use is on thin stock to reduce total heat input.Hope this at least helps Attached ImagesG
