Bobcat bucket, bobcat edge.  Should be a nice one. Here is the sorry bucketReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I used 5/32 rods and the arc air.  Somewhere between 50 and 80 PSI.  My gauge is shot. One pass here.I cut the whole edge off because the bucket was so bad.  I set it back 2.5".  I had 3" to the holes in the new edge.OH SH*T!  60" bucket, 66" edge.   Call customer.  They loaded the wrong bucket on my truck.   Dropped off the right one this afternoon.  More pics tomorrow.  I will probably end up doing both.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Dave do you weld braces in the bucket to keep it from bending all over the place when you cut the edge off ? Or is the bucket bowed allready it looks rough...real rough   good luck
Reply:Makes you wonder, if this isn't the bucket he's supposed to be working on, how bad is the other one!

Reply:We had one like that yrs ago on the gravel refinery. I just cut the whole bottom out and replaced it w/ 3/8" plate, welded on the new edge along w/ new skid straps on the underside. It probably outlasted the Bobcat.                                    MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Where did you get, and what did you have to pay (if you don't mind my asking) for that bucket edge?  I've got more than one old bucket that could use some attention.
Reply:Chuck. If you go up to the top left corner and click on User CP you can add your location so we always know. That way if someones in your area, they can make a recomendation as to who they use. Here's a more detailed explanation.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...145#post357145We use a local company that specializes in bucket teeth and cutting edges for local quarries, contractors and townships. Usually they are signifigantly cheaper than going to Bobcat, CAT, or some other dealer. The place we use is Cotterino Supply in Colmar Pa. You can also sometimes get AR plate cut at steel suppliers in the size needed for weld on edges...No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:If that sorry bucket isn't the one they needed to be fixed, I can't w-a-i-t to see the one that DOES need to be fixed!  Cause that one needed to be fixed too.  Now that the mangled old edge has been removed, it definitely needs to be fixed. As to the 66 inch replacment edge and the 60 inch bucket, you just cut 6 inches out of the edge and weld it back together.  Right?    Bobcat says their bolt-on replacement edges are just 1080 steel, I don't know what the weld-on ones are.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:that looks like all kinds of fun to fix!!!!
Reply:Here is the RIGHT bucket.  Much nicer but turned out to be more work to fit the edge. This edge has been replaced once before and it was not by me.  I don't put pieces on the inside.  Scarfed em off.  Same settings as yesterdayBack sideI cut the edge in sections, it comes off easier and fits in the scrap bin.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Needs some more trimming to fit.  I cut the bottom braces back 1.5" on this one.Really crooked edge since it had been replaced before.  This is just for looksBetter. No welding on it today.  The time I scheduled to do this job has past, so I needed to do a few other jobs today.New edge will be welded on with pulsed spray tomorrow.Maybe they will scrap the other bucket....David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David, are you interested in lending out your Arcair?   It looks like I should invest in one. Miller said I could get away with usng up to 1/4" carbons. What size did you use on that? I was looking into an Arcair K3000, good for 1/8" to 3/8",  but it's almost $400.00 from Cyberweld. I found a copy of the K4000 from Welding Depot for $115.00. The Arcair lists their K4000 good for 5/32" to 1/2". It looks like I would lose the ability to use 1/8". I don't know if they would still work or if I would ever even use a 1/8". I don't know how often I would be using it, any experience with the copy K4000? Gouging is all new to me, I hope you don't mind all the questions."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Stick-man,  I see from your sig 300 amps is y our biggest machine.  No need to go over 1/4" carbons.I have used 1/8"  now and then.  They burn up fast, but don't need much for amps... 100-150.I have a real arc air, its the smallest one they make and does a fine job for anything I do.The job above I used 5/32 which is a little small, 3/16 is what I usually use, but was out of them.Take a look at this one.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ghlight=bucketHere is another one  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=Arc+AirYou can even put a carbon rod in your electrode holder and use a blow gun.  Not easy, but it works.  Read my posts, I always reveal settings, rod and usually time to do the job.Last edited by David R; 02-02-2010 at 09:19 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Good, you did get the part from Bobcat, the only way to go. I found that out after I made my first one.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:What plasma did you use to make that final cut?
Reply:So you gouged it off, then cut the bottom? Why not just cut off in the first place?
Reply:I used a Hypertherm 600 to make the final cut.I could have cut the edge off at the back like the first bucket.  I can't cut welds with the plasma as well as the gouge, I don't have the depth control.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Here is the job.  I welded the bottom first.  Used the Mig because it was there and I had to flip the bucket later.  .045 wire 225 Ipm. 19.5 volts, C/25.  Edge is about 5/8, bucket is maybe 3/16".  Total about 3.5 hours.Topside pulsed spray.  .030 wire 550 ipm, 92/8.  One 66" nonstop bead.  Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. When I dropped it off at the bobcat dealer, a customer of theirs saw the bucket.  He asked if I could do aluminum.  I gave him a pen with my name and number on it.I will be doing the other bucket too.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Great job as always David and thanks for the thread. The first and only edge I ever put on was in '79 and wound up with a big crown.  Don't remember any details other than it was done with stick and I can't tell you how we straightened it (porta-powers I think) but sure remember the embarrassment.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
