Reply:Gotta love Clecos.  Don't know what I'd do without them.I've got the same brake - ended up with it when I found myself in a bind at one point.  I found this thread on Pirate4x4, and after doing similar mods, it has turned into a halfway decent brake.  http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=553583I used a piece of 3 x .25 flat to make the truss across the apron.  1/2" bolt gives it adjustment capabilities.  I've got a piece of 4" channel bolted to the front, in place of the 1.5 box he used.  The C-channel for the cast supports are a must, as are longer handles.  With these mods, I've bent 20 inches of .125 aluminum, and a full 36" of .090.  I doubt it would do it every day, but on a Sunday evening, when no other shops are open, it gets me out of a bind.  As the fella in the link mentioned, a reinforcement strap is needed to do much in the way of thick stuff - I never bothered as I have a good enough relationship with my supplier that they will often do brake work for me at no cost.  I never planned on using it much, but I use it all the time for .063 and .090 aluminum, and with the mods, it has worked much better than I expected.  I too am saving for a Dries & Krump finger brake, but this is making things work in the mean time.Who is John Galt?
Reply:What did you use to lip the lightening holes?I am an FAA mechanic, so i have tons of clecos and use them along with solid rivets for a lot of parts on the race car. It just nice to have something mounted really stiff, but easy enough to remove when someone tacos it.Syncrowave 350Coolmate 3Millermatic 251Spoolmatic 30A

Reply:i second the dimple die question...superb work there!! definitely going to make some tooling holders for my mill like you didcan you share with us how you made the dimples?
Reply:JMR has some upscale dimple dies.  Barbed Wire Offroad and a guy named BillyBob over at Pirate sell ones that are a bit more affordable.  Typically you use a press.  You cut or punch your hole then use the dimple die to press the dimple into the hole.  Easy to do, makes things clean.  If you don't have a press some sell kits that have a bolt through them where you use wrenches to drive the dimple into the material. On edit, link with some pics for those that aren't familiar.http://vansantent.com/sheet_metal_ma...imple_dies.htmLast edited by dstevens; 12-11-2010 at 11:45 PM.
