A couple weeks back I started getting ready for snow... I bent the A arm again on my 9' Fisher last year and F'd up the swing cylinders. The cylinders are wearing internally and the pump screen is clogging up with the filings. Fisher has changed the design of the A arm several times. The original was just 3" C channel. The newer spare was 3" channel with 3/16" plate as a stiffener over part of the open side. I used 1/4" on the rebuild. The current 9'er's use 4" channel with a stiffener, and the 10' municipal I'm getting for the F550 is 3 or 4" box tube. I've got some 1/4" wall 3x2 box tube for the new rebuild. They've also significantly changed the mounting design. Gone is the C under the A arm that is kicking up and bending the A arm on the 9'rs, but it's still there on the 10' municipals. The bend is right after where the C goes under the A. Reply:Also looks like I'll need to rebuild the blade points as well as they are much worse than I'd originally thought. There's definitely a lot of cracked welds where the angle cyl pins mount to the blade, as well as oblonged holes and the A arm pivot points on the blade are oblonged by almost an 1/8" on the bottom, and more than 3/16" up top. Got this plow used from a local township and they beat the pi$$ out of it even before I got to use it. Looks like I'll have to cut out all the stuff the township did at some point and redo all of it. Reply:Now for the rebuild. I got one of our members here to do a little machining for me and he made me some cylinders and pin for the A arm and plow mount. Also picked up a 1" annular cutter to use in the mill to do the other holes I need. Got to love the way those things bore holes effortlessly! Last pict the mock up of the parts for the blade mount with the newer "tall" type A arm mount and support. Attached Images. No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Spent half the day yesterday cutting and prepping the steel for the base of the A frame so I could weld it up on the XMT at the tech school before I had to help out with the class. Not the best picts, the welds look better in person.Pict 1: The basic A frame. Still need to add some more to it, but at this point I can toss it on the blade and put it to work in an emergency.Pict 2-5: Some detailed picts of a few of the welds. XMT 304, 20 volts, wire feed about "3" on the feeder, .035 solid wire, 92/8 Argon/CO2. Most welds flat. I love the way these machines run. I have to get me one of these when the next deal comes around.Thats it for this semester of classes. I have to work outside from now until mid January when classes start up again. Hopefully if the weather holds I can bang out a good potion of the remainder this weekend. I think they are calling for the possibility of snow on Sunday. Probably get it too, since Ford's got the new truck for warranty work, and I can't get the new plow mounted until it comes back. Attached Images. No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW, those welds look awesome! Nice work. I have an angle snowplow for a skid steer that I have been thinking about rebuilding. Same probs, needs new cylinders, cracks all over the place, ect. And don't feel bad, at least in Jan. you will have a shop to work in again. I'm outside for the entire winter"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Ahhh... now I remember why I moved south to the sunshine state, no plow rebuilds in my immediate future but your post brings back many a memory. Nice job on the rebuild.I am what I am, Deal with it!If necessity is the Mother of Invention, I must be the Father of Desperation!
Reply:Nice build. Can't wait to see some pictures with it on the truck. I thought we were ahead of the curve and then it dumped early a few weeks ago. That put the hustle into getting the second plow done. It didn't last long but they say this is going to be a hard winter. Good to be ready. |
