What's up everybody? I have a question for you guys. A buddy of mine has a two post lift in his shop, and lifts cars by the frame, under the rocker panels. The rocker panels on my car are pretty rusted and I'm going to make an attempt to weld brand new rocker panels on. Only problem is, it's kinda hard to get at the rocker panels when the lift arms are in the way.So my question is, has anyone ever made adaptors that lift a car by the tires, or ramps that go over the lift arms?During my search, I stumbled across this:http://www.mohawklifts.com/wp/consum...ging-adaptors/^^ Those seem like what I'm after, but I'd like to see what you guys can come up with.
Reply:I don`t know, but I have only done rockers with 2 ramps on 1 side of the car so I can sit on the floor or lay on a creeper and not rack the body.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:Hi Being one who cannot afford a two-post lift I built something that works for me.This is a hoist you can pick up a car body either on the bottom of from the roof by using a wooden cradle. I put it in the car and bring the hoist up to meet the roof and make position adjustment and pick the body up. It goes high enough to clear the tires so I and remove or install it on the frame in about 10 minutes. Most cars the roof is designed to protect in case of roll over and can be lifted by the roof.Roadster guys have a problem there.I also use it to install bodies or frames on a rotisserie. Or for storage is can move it around all done by myself. No need buy beer for the help!!have funtom Attached Images

Reply:My Honda Civic does not have frame rails, and the indicated areas for placement of the jack look like the rocker panels.

Reply:how about using a jack, four jack stands, and a creeper? unless your doing a lot of it, by the time you build a special lift, you could have welded all your rocker panels on.
Reply:just give it to Joe's Auto repair and throw lots of money at him...
Reply:I have to say I like the tire lift thing that Mohawk has I requested info. they would be great for exhaust jobs . I love my Mohawk there isn't anything built as good or safe . Attached Images |
