Just wondering if anyone has built a bed slide for a pickup, was thinking about buying one but alot of the products on the market would leave alot of wasted space in the bed of my pickup as it does not allow for molding around the wheel arches, so I am considering making a version myself,Here's a few links

Reply:Certainly had to turn down the volume on my computer. All that flashing between scenes and the written ads was very distracting.  Personally I just throw a piece of plastic sheeting in the back of  the truck and tug on the sheeting when I want the item on the tailgate. Bet the plastic sheet is cheaper. Plus I wouldn't want to dump a half ton or more of dirt & gravel on top of that sliding thing.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:LOL I love reading your responses.  I stopped the video a quarter of the way through.  ARG  I decided I would rather read what yall said about it to see if I wanted to go to the websight.  Yall voiced the same opinion I had.

Reply:I couldn't make it a quarter way .. product may be good but its aimed at todays generation that get distracted if it's not all flashy lights and head pounding..I'm a old fart and that doesn't impress me.....Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:I didn't watch the video.I do have a sliding frame my Bobcat sits on in the utility bed.  I did not build it completely from scratch.  It started out as a Bed Slide brand, 1200 lb model.  I got it used very cheap and completely modified it to suit my needs.  I narrowed it to about 19" wide and shortened it to about 6' long, welded extra cross members into both top and bottom frames and welded another, heavier frame under it that provides for it to be bolted down in several places along it's length and distribute the weight evenly on the bed floor.  I also welded safety stops at the end and hoops to keep it from jumping up if I hit a big bump.  I rebuilt the locking pin mechanism, eliminating the cable, and put a couple more stop holes in it.  It was necessary to have the Bobcat on a slide because of the way I have it mounted so close to the gang boxes in my truck bed.  I slide it out to get it away from the boxes so it can get some cooling air around it and slide it forward back into it's cave for transport so the weight is carried further forward on the truck.I'll get some pics up in a bit...Frame slid most of the way out.  It can slide further, but I only need to slide it about 3 feet to get the Bobcat away from the boxes. In this pic, I was re-arranging the utility body and the only mounted in the bed of it was the Bobcat.  Frame is slid all the way forward.Last edited by DesertRider33; 12-13-2010 at 08:08 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Regardles of whether you used a manufactured unit or built your own they will waste bed space. The only purpose that one of these units serve is to keep you from having to bend over into the truck bed to retrieve your cargo. Also, if you chose to employ one of these then you would greatly reduce the cargo capacity (lbs) of your truck.  The max load weight for the unit in the video was 1200 lbs evenly distributed, your bare truck bed can carry much more than that. Bad idea IMO. YMMV.StephenMillermatic 251Miller Syncrowave 200Miller 30A SpoolgunHypertherm Powermax 30Etc., etc., etc.............Cancer Sucks!
Reply:Ok I watched the video.   My lord, that really was annoying!!   Whoever produced that thing should be locked up in a room alone and made to watch it several times continuously until they shoot their self!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Man, what a horrible video! I can't stand it. People get paid to do that kind of stuff?
Reply:Originally Posted by DesertRider33For my purposes, the slide doesn't waste any bed space, it actually saves me bed space and makes the bed more useful.  As well, although it adds about 100 lbs to the total weight of the truck, the slide makes carrying the weight of the Bobcat easier on the truck.   Without the slide, I would have to mount the Bobcat permanently all the way to the rear of the bed, carrying all of it's weight behind the truck's axle, which is already overloaded.   With it mounted permanently at the back of the bed, I also wouldn't have what little bit of open bed storage area I have at the rear of the bed when the Bobcat is slid forward.   If I were to mount the Bobcat permanently all the way forward, it would overheat due to no air circulation around the engine with the gang boxes mounted less than an inch away on the back and right sides.   It would only have air flow on the left side and above.
Reply:I agree with the others. In most cases its a wast of space. The only time it "might" be beneficial is if your truck has a cap on the back. Getting to things with a truck cap is a PIA. I thought of (but most likely wont) building one for my van. I have a 7 passenger E350. The back has around 3.5 x 4.5 feet of space but has a high vertical space. The slides benefit really come in when you want to add a second layer to your truck. Put stuff on the top shelf and still be able to slide the bottom out to access the stuff under there. I have two dogs. we go camping. I have to put a few things back there. It would be nice to be able to have some sliding storage under there and have the dogs be able to lay on top. That said, Im sure I will never get around to it and they are getting old.
Reply:I had to stop watching the video so I wouldn't get a seizure.  Jeez
Reply:Someone needs to lay off the energy drinks. Mixed feelings on the slide benc199.  Boils down to why/what you would be installing it for.  We had one in a pick-up at work for a while but I understand it was pulled out as it was too limiting.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Thanks for all the comments guys, was only thinking about getting one as I have a top-up cover on the bed of the pickup and items that are at the front of the bed can be a bit awkard and tricky to get at and also secure down for transport. Will have to evaluate the pros and cons of this system.
Reply:Looks like BEDSLIDE bed slider redesigned their product. They have a different product video running on their website and it looks a lot better. http://www.bedslide.com/ Seems like BEDSLIDE's cargo management would help me access my truck bed.
Reply:My old man has one or one like it.  Works great for his need (construction)  with a topper.  He has received many good comments on it.  It loses ~3 inchesCarlohttp://public.fotki.com/Naudi2U/
