Two very different items, but a couple of things from last week I thought were worth sharing. The trailer was not a paying job, it was for a friend. He lives in a typical suburban area with a tight driveway and narrow road. Getting the trailer in and out is a huge chore and involves cutting through ditches. He came up with the idea of converting it and off we went. The original frame is composed of 6"x3"x3/16" HSS. All new material is 6"x3"x1/4" and gusset tubes are 6"x2"x1/4" HSS or 2.5x2.5x 3/16" HSS blocking. All critical welds are uphill (which are the majority). Overall it shortened his actual road length by around 30", and gives much better control. He is going to put on the jack, bumper stands, and bumpers. I am structure only. This past Friday we didnt have alot going on and I have been cleaning out and organizing the back office so the guys could have some sort of a breakroom and area to relax. One of them and I brainstormed a bit on something to build for a table. We came up with a rough idea and I set them loose with whatever we had for clean drop material in the shop. 3 hours later was this. I did my typical spangle type finish and put 3 coats of polyurethane on it. Top is 4' x 4' and I am picking up the glass tomorrow. Reply:personally i never liked the idea of tube on boat trailers, but that looks plenty strong. Reply:Im not a boat guy eather but I am a truck driver and I wonder what they are useing to pull that trailer? And really wouldnt it be better in the water than going down the road? I like the table for sure. Reading this site has given me lots of ideas! |
