Well Christmas is almost upon us again. So I've got 5 little gifts to make.Up 1st, a stocking hanger. All mild steel, cut bent and ground to a rough shine, then clear coated.Next up a pencil holder for a VT architecture student. (Go Hokies)...to be continued.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:That's neat looking.  It's hard to tell from the pic...is it just a santa shape cut out then all the detail is done with grind marks in different directions?
Reply:Yup, that's exactly what I did.Here's #2VaTech pencil holder.Well that's it for today, it's friggin' cold and I'm going home.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:Thats cool! I like the VT, you could sell the crap out of them to the hardcore hokie fans. I hear ya on the cold, didnt get above freezing here today! You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein
Reply:Stocking hangar is cool. It seems like it might be prone to fall if Santa loads up those stockings.  How wide is the flatbar.VT has very clean straight cuts.  Seems appropriate for the tech part of VT. Nice job as always.
Reply:Really nice.  I like the grind finish.  Of course I can't be a VT fan, being a Husker fan and all, but I sure like your project! (Go Big Red...)(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Santa's workshop is still busy. even with only one fat elf. This is for my wife. A set of 3 end tables.I guess it's sort of for me, too, since I can't stand the fold up tables we've been using for the last couple of years. They're too small and by the time you leave a magazine and the TV remotes on it there's never any room for a drink. She'll like them, though. She complains about the fold up tables once in a while, and has even spec'd out what she'd like in her end tables in the past. The tops all done. Can you tell I like the ground to a rough shine finish? It's cheap and looks high dollar to me.I jigged up the table so i can knock them out.The open spaces will be filled with some 1" x 6" cut to fit, sanded, stained and polyurethaned. I'll weld some tabs to attach them to once I have the wood ready so I can get it flush on top. Books and magazines and remotes on the lower shelves, beverage of choice on top.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
Reply:I think your square is out of whack!  You might try not using it as a hammer...  Looks good..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks y'all. The steel is ground to a rough shine with 60 grit flap wheels then sprayed with Rustoleum clear. The wood is stained with dark walnut and coated with clear polyurethane.I can't wait to for tomorrow morning to give them to my wife.Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]
