I got the idea for this from Lynyrd's thread where he has the slide out vise on his work table. First I made a stand for my roller, vise and whatever else I need to mount on it. I made it from a 36" piece of round 1/2" plate with heavy square tube and receiver hitch tubes. Then I made plates for a vise & the roller and welded square tubes to the bottoms. Here's the roller installed:And here's the vise:I can just swap them out as needed. I also drilled and threaded the receiver tube for 7/16" bolts which eliminate the wobble. Then I welded another receiver to a flat plate and bolted it to the underside of my workbench top with 1/2" carriage bolts which I recessed into the bench top. I made a long square tube and welded a 6" piece of receiver to the end of it at a 90. Now I can drop the vise in it when needed:And when done I can pull it out of the receiver, flip it over and shove it back in, out of the way under the bench:I did drill it for a pin so the vise can't drop out when flipped. The indoor part of my shop is only 16 X 12 so I am always looking for ways to save space. Hopefully I will be able to build a garage someday.Last edited by bigb; 12-27-2010 at 10:36 PM.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
