Anyone with a speedglas 9100xx hood?

When welding in a booth with white walls, is it okay to have the side shields without the black non see through insert in them? Is the shade dark enough for the sides? Arc welding btw.
Reply:I say this because I thought the side are meant for open areas, not enclosed for the flash to bounce around the walls and reflect in the sides.
Reply:I can't answer you for sure but, they are still shade 5. I also don't weld in a white booth so I'm not sure.
Reply:They would give UV protection which is what give you the sore eyes.

Reply:My shop is completely white. I weld with the side windows not blocked. I weld all day long. Never had any issues.
Reply:I would contact Speedglas on this one. I have a SG. 9100XX without sideview lenses. The way I understand it is that they are to prevent flash from other welders but yet allow you to see better in the shop when walking,ect..Speedglass 1-800-243-4630
