First post and all that...forgive me if this discussion already exists elsewhere on the forum - I searched and didn't find much.I've seen rod somewhere marketed as wearfacing rod next to hardfacing rod. I'm wanting to build up the pin hitches on some farm implements. Do I need to use wearfacing rod for that or will 7018 work? Thanks in advance.
Reply:That depends..... You will have to figure out which surface you want to wear.Hard-surface one face and 7018 the other.Seldom does hard against hard work out.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:My advice is to go to a website of one of the hardfacing rod manufacturers. Stoody is the brand I use but there are others. On the website there will be a list of the rods and their characteristics. Some are for metal to ground wear, some are better for impact wear, others are for metal-to-metal contact. You can make your choice from the list of products. If you pick the wrong rod then galling can occur as traffas pointed out. |
