What should I sleeve the inside of 1.5 od x .095 wall round tubing with on the inside. The inside diameter of it is 1.310 ID, if I use 1.25 od, is .06 gonna make alot of slop ? Im just making tube doors so theres no structural strength needed. I would just like to get it as straight as possible. Would 1.25 be as close as Im going to get it or is there a metric size thats closer? thanks.

Reply:If it is ERW tube it will have a seam on the inside.  If it is DOM it will be smooth on the inside.
Reply:Are you wanting to sleeve joints for splicing purposes, or sleeve an entire length?"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:What is a tube door?   Is there a word missing there?  perhaps a photo or sketch of what you are trying to achieve would help the discussion?  It doesn't have to be terribly fancy.  You can draw straight lines boxes and curves with Microsoft paint.   Save your sketch as a .jpg and upload it here.  There may be fifty ways to solve the dilemma you are working on, half of them easy.   Folks here offer some great ideas.--zip
Reply:Take a piece of the 1.5 x .095 tube, slice about 1/2" out of it the long way and close it up with hose clamps until it just fits inside your tube.  I do it on .065 wall tube all the time and it works great.  It would probably be easier if you had something with a bit thinner wall, but should work alright anyway.  You might just need to use t-bolt clamps instead of worm drive ones.
Reply:First of all, what is it you are trying to acheive? Is this for a welded splice or a slip joint? How tight do you need it to fit?Thermal Arc Fabricator 2101970 Lincoln RedfaceMiller 150 STLStill need a Syncrowave and a plasma and a milling machine and a lathe and a bigger shop and a....
Reply:This is a tube door. I just want to sleeve the inside so I can take away an inch of length on the horizontal bars. I made it about an inch too long, so Im going to cut out 1-1/4 horizontally put the sleeve in, then weld it back together. Ill leave 1/4 for fill with bevel. Attached Images
Reply:I wouldnt worry about sleeving it for that application myself. You could cut it at the joints, shorten it and reweld it.If thats too much work due to the fishmouth joints, you could cut and splice it wherever you want - use the angle iron as a V block to line up your joint for fitting, weld it and sand it smooth and round again.Thermal Arc Fabricator 2101970 Lincoln RedfaceMiller 150 STLStill need a Syncrowave and a plasma and a milling machine and a lathe and a bigger shop and a....
