I am looking at buying an engine driven welder. I am looking at a Miller Blue Star 185 and a Wildcat 200. The two units are about equal in output for both generator and welder. The Blue Star 185 has a Honda engine on it and the Wildcat a Subaru. What are your thoughts on these two engines as to which one is the best. Thanks
Reply:Those 2 models are so close that I don't even know why Miller makes both of them. They really should pick one and discontinue the other. The Wildcat does have a much higher duty cycle than the Blue Star so if you intend to use it alot, the Wildcat would be the better choice, I would think. A late model used Bobcat would be about the same money though and alot more machine. As for engines, I would choose the Honda. If it was between Subaru and Kohler, I'd choose the Kohler.Last edited by DesertRider33; 10-13-2009 at 08:48 PM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:You would have a hard time beating a Honda for a small engine. Larger, 18hp and up, I would go with Kohler or maybe Briggs but smaller, Honda wins every time. |
