hey guys, i recently made the switch from fluxcore to gas, i am used to welding with both fluxcore and gas (from work) but the gas i used at work was 75-25, and i went to 100% pure co2, i know that it has less steady arc and all, but it seems really toughand hard to get the hang of. My dad uses 100% co2 and i used his and it seems fine (he uses different wire than i do though) i am using .030 unibraze wire, he is using either .023-.025 lincoln wire. my questions are, is there any brand of wire that works best with 100% co2? and what is the ideal pressure to run? thanks in advance!i can weld like a champ with flux core and 75-25 but im strugglin with pure co2 and its pissin me off...
Reply:First, Stupid question: Did you switch the polarity on your machine when you went from FC to gas on your home machine?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:oh and if i used flux core wire with straight co2, would i get good penetration, and a nicer looking weld?
Reply:yes i did
Reply:Some FC wires are designed to be run with CO2 (dual shield). I've only seen them run in bigger migs in a production enviroment (.045 + wire ) so I can't say if they'll work on small machines. On those big machines penetration isn't usually an issue at the voltages they can run. You can't run them without CO2 like standard FC wire as far as I know..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:If you have E71T-11 or E71T-GS self shielding fluxcore wire, the 2 most common fluxcore wires found locally in .030 and .035 sizes, it is not made to run with any kind of shielding gas.  Just use it straight, no gas, and it will weld just fine the way it was made to.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:the thing is, i like the penetration of flux core wire, but the look of gased mig welds, i was wondering if i combined the 2 if i could get good penetration and a nice look.
Reply:You can combine the two, with the proper wire, which is dual-shield wire, made for running with shielding gas, not self-shield.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:ok, if i combine the 2 will i get the penetration of flux core with CLOSE to the look of gas welds? thanks for all the input
Reply:also, if i just run solid wire, what would my machine burn in better? .030 or .025?these 110v machines are all new to me..lol
