I have been looking at tig cooler kits and stand alone coolers. Smaller coolers have 10,000 btu/hr cooling and the mid size have 12,000 btu/hr, etc. The smaller one says it is good up to 500 amps but the kit does not recommend any welders above a 225 precision tig or square wave 275, dynasty 200/300. The mid size ones say they are good up to 750 amps for tig. Are these gross exagerations on the numbers. Is there a good way to tell which size cooler would work without burning up the torch or cooler and needing to upgrade later. Can you go by the gallon capacity, small cooler 2.5 gallons with radiator and mid size 3 gallons with radiator.I would get a Lincoln Cool arc 40 because I have a lincoln sq wave 275 but they are some of the highest price coolers out there.I do not want to make my own, I want to purchase a factory made unit. Thanks
Reply:Well i rand my Lincoln idealarc tig WIDE OPEN 330 Amps AC pretty @ aprox 60+% duty cycle wide open with a Bernard 5 gallon cooler with no radiator for 12 hours a couple of weeks back.   The cooling water temp was around 140 deg by the time i was finished.    It was a LARGE aluminum weldment that no matter how i tried i couldn't keep a pre-heat in.   It was just too large and i couldn't move fast enough.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
