I am TIG welding 3/16 mild steel in DC- using 3/32 tung 2% thoriated, pure Argon. The amps on my old UCC-305 seem to fluctuate quite a bit. It seems like the arc is pulsating at times and it doesn't seem to respond to the foot pedal command. This is an intermittent problem. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

Reply:Thanks for your reply, I think you have identified the problem. I haven't been able to test the potentiometer yet but I was amazed at the number of breaks in the lines. I bought 50 feet of 16-3 electrical cord and I'll probably start by just re-wiring the foot control. Thanks again!!
Reply:Well I checked the potentiometer just using an Ohmmeter and it seemed to be OK so I re-wired both cords from the machine to the foot pedal and it works great. Thanks for your great advice. I'm back in business. |
